Let me tell you a story.
Once upon a time there was a girl, who was me. Surprise!
I had a dream of being someone big and important who could change things and make people happy. Eventually I grew up and thought about, seriously, getting into politics or becoming an astronaut. Closer to college I felt I should think more reasonably about my career choices; my only goal was to do better than the generation before me.
Fast forward almost 20 years (OMG really?!?) and a rich, orange guy, with bad hair, from TV became POTUS despite using all kinds of misoginistic and racist language.
I’ve watched this past election cycle with much apprehension and A LOT of mentos (nervous habit). Come the inauguration of Agent Orange and I was paralyzed unsure how to move again. I was proud of my country to see how they responded and marched and protested and spoke out.
This isn’t enough for me.
I need to help drive the change in what I feel is a more substantial way, for me. I’m going to take a hint from younger Ashley and get into the political arena with a goal to eventually be POTUS.
In the meantime, I want to help influence the girls of America to believe they can be POTUS without having to take the longer road I’ve traveled. That said, several friends, who have been surprisingly supportive in my bold announcement, and I are creating a Kickstarter campaign to start a magazine for girls. One that lets them know they can be feminine and like cars, they can be nerds and like sports, helps them on the career paths in which they’re interested, lets them know what careers are even available, which is an obstacle in and of itself. We want to open doors and windows and minds.
Please keep an eye out for updates on this campaign.
